Adícora
Adícora is a tourist town whose center develops between the two main beaches: Playa Norte, with restaurants near the sea and Playa Sur, with inns and Windsurfing and Kitesurfing schools where beginners can learn these sports or the most expert can improve. The center offers only essential services with restaurants opened during the week, small mini markets, bakeries, and for small emergencies a rural clinic.

Adícora es un pueblo turístico cuyo centro se desarrolla entre las dos playas principales: la Playa Norte, con restaurantes cerca del mar y la Playa Sur, con posadas y escuelas de Windsurf y Kitesurf donde los novatos pueden aprender estos deportes o los más expertos pueden perfeccionarse. El centro ofrece solamente servicios esenciales con restaurantes abiertos durante la semana, pequeños mini mercados, panaderías, y para pequeñas emergencias un ambulatorio rural.
How to get there / Como llegar
To go to Adícora, it is possible to come from Coro or Punto Fijo and both cities offer air or ground connections with the capital, Caracas. During the day some small buses connect Adícora with the passengers Terminal, as it is a more economical solution, and taxi the travel time is 45 min., it is better to contact before transportation costs.
Para ir a Adícora, se puede llegar desde Coro o Punto Fijo y las dos ciudades ofrecen conexiones aéreas o terrestres con la capital Caracas. Durante el día unos pequeños buses conectan a Adícora con el Terminal de pasajeros, ya que es una solución más económica, y en taxi el tiempo del traslado es de 45 min. , es mejor contactar antes el costo del transporte.
Sailing Conditions / Condiciones para la Navegación
The wind: Playa Sur is known for being an ideal place for the practice of windsurf and kitesurf, due to the constant wind that blows all the year. It is characterized for being one of the windiest beaches of Venezuela, which is side-on shore and comes from the East/Northeast. The period with strong winds is between the months January - August; windiest month is usually is March, during the rainy season October - November may have windless days. The conditions are suitable almost daily, in the morning the breeze is usually soft and a little bit gusty. Typically the wind increases in the evening until the dusk and frequently for some days is continuous day and night.
The beach: A natural reef protects the town from the waves and current. The most suitable beach is the South Beach since the bottom is slightly deep and the wind is side-on shore. This combination allows the beginners to practice safely, in addition near the Lighthouse in the zone protected from the reef there are no waves; from the protected area along in the southern part there is a choppy zone and then the area of waves and it varies according to the distance, although still they are not difficult waves to sail, they are very good to jump, the navigation is parallel to the coast and allows to enjoy between the waves a silver water. In winter there is the Sun until 6 p.m. and another important thing is that there are little swimmers.
The one that wants to navigate with bigger waves can go up to the reef and with strong wind the waves can be quite large and it is a good idea to ask if there are zones with little depth of water.
Kitesurf: The most used sizes of kites are between 7 and 12 m. And the space to raise the Kite is not lacking, Playa Sur is wide and behind the line of the houses there is no danger except the cars that can park on the seashore.
Windsurf: During the months January and July the sizes of windsurf sails most used are between 4 and 5.5 m.
The climate: The whole Peninsula consists of a dry climate, and during the year the temperature is very constant. In the period September - November there is an increase of rains and normally of dampness, December and January are the freshest months although seldom drops to 25 ºC, the difference between the day and the night is not excessive, thanks to the wind that expires of the sea.
El viento: La Playa Sur se caracteriza por ser un lugar ideal para la práctica del windsurf y kitesurf, debido al viento constante que sopla todo el año. Se caracteriza por ser una de las playas con más viento de Venezuela, el cual es side-on shore y viene del Este/Noreste. El periodo con vientos fuertes se encuentra entre los meses Enero - Agosto; el mes con más viento generalmente es Marzo, durante el periodo de lluvia Octubre - Noviembre pueden haber días sin viento. Las condiciones son aptas casi diariamente, en la mañana la brisa es usualmente suave y un poco rafagoza. Típicamente el viento aumenta en la tarde hasta el anochecer y es frecuente que para algunos días sea continuo día y noche.
La playa: Un arrecife natural protege al pueblo de las olas y corriente. La playa más apta es la playa Sur pues el fondo es poco profundo y el viento es side-on shore. Esta combinación permite a los principiantes de practicar sin peligro, además cerca del Faro en la zona protegida del arrecife no hay olas; desde la zona protegida siguiendo al Sur hay una zona de chop y después el área de las olas y varía según la distancia, que aunque todavía no son olas difíciles de navegar, son muy buenas para saltar, la navegación es paralela a la costa y permite disfrutar entre las olas un agua plateada. En invierno hay sol hasta las 6 de la tarde y otra cosa importante es que hay poco bañistas.
El que quiere navegar con olas más grandes puede ir arriba hasta el arrecife y con mucho viento las olas pueden ser bastante grandes y es buena idea preguntar si hay zonas con poca profundidad de agua.
Kitesurf: Los tamaños de kites más usados son entre 7 y 12 m. Y el espacio para subir el Kite no falta, la Playa Sur es amplia y detrás de la línea de las casas no hay ningún peligro excepto los autos que se puedan estacionar en la orilla del mar.
Windsurf: Durante los meses de Enero y Julio los tamaños de las velas de windsurf más usadas son entre 4 y 5.5 m.
El clima: Toda la Península consta de un clima bastante seco, y durante el año la temperatura es bastante constante. En el período Septiembre – Noviembre hay un aumento de las lluvias y normalmente de la humedad, Diciembre y Enero son los meses más frescos aunque raramente baja a los 25ºC, la diferencia entre el día y la noche no es excesiva esto gracias al viento que expira del mar.
